SNOW TOTALS: Record-breaking snowfall at Minneapolis airport

A second snowstorm in three days brought record snowfall to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Saturday night into Sunday morning, the National Weather Service recorded six inches of new snowfall at MSP Airport, setting a new record for the date of Feb. 24. The previous record for the Feb. 24 at the airport was 4.8 inches in 2007.

Thursday night into Friday morning, snow totals in the Twin Cities metro were in the range of four to six inches. MSP Airport recorded 5.6 inches from Thursday's snowfall, putting the two-day total just shy of one foot.

ROAD CONDITIONS: MnDOT and county plows were out most of the night in the Twin Cities metro, clearing most mainline roads by Sunday morning. After clearing major highways, MnDOT crews will focus on ramps. Give plows room to work and beware of slippery spots. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, there were 140 crashes and 178 spinouts through 8:30 p.m. Saturday, including one fatal crash in Benton County.

MINNEAPOLIS SNOW EMERGENCY DAY 3:  Sunday, Feb. 25 is Day 3 of the Minneapolis snow emergency. Do not park on the ODD side of non-Snow Emergency Route streets. You can park on even side of non-Snow Emergency Route streets and either side of streets marked with the red Snow Emergency Route sign. Several other cities have declared snow emergencies or winter parking restrictions. Check with your city for the current status and rules.
