Minnesota weather: Gusty breezes, turning bitterly cold Wednesday

A cold front has arrived with falling temperatures and subzero wind chills across Minnesota on Wednesday.

What we know: Wednesday will be brighter with some pockets of sunshine and passing clouds. While the overnight snow has cleared out, a spotty flurry is possible through the morning. 

A cold front has settled in on Wednesday, creating frigid conditions as temperatures are expected to fall throughout the day. The Twin Cities metro starts in the lower teens, but continues to drop into the single digits. Overnight lows are expected to dip below zero and remain cold into Thursday. 

Gusty breezes at 15-25+ mph will make temperatures feel below zero state wide. By the afternoon, the metro will feel 15–20 degrees below zero, while northern Minnesota is even colder with subzero temperatures and wind chills ranging from 20 to 40 degrees below zero.

Cold continues Thursday in MN

What's next: The bitterly cold conditions will hang around on Thursday with temperatures in the single digits for central and southern Minnesota, and subzero temperatures in the northern region. However, the sun will be out, and the winds will be calmer for a more pleasant, but still cold day. 

The clouds return by Friday afternoon, but temperatures warm as the wind shifts from the south. The weekend will be even warmer with temperatures in the 30s.
