When it comes to entertaining, setting the table properly creates the experience people remember. A Red, White and Blue themed table is easier than you think.
Something borrowed, something blue? Did you know that blue dinnerware is the biggest seller in the world? Grab a few red pieces of dinnerware, flatware or glassware, even linens during the Christmas Holiday on clearance. White tends to be easier as it is a staple in most kitchens.
I enjoy mixing and matching - a collected table of some sorts, pairing china with melamine and earthenware. Using pillow cases I found on clearance as place mats or patriotic dishtowels as napkins. Vintage flag banners are perfect table runners. Even glittered plastic utensils from the party store make a shameless appearance.
For those of us who 'collect' or secret hoard things to entertain with, playing with your table and not taking it too seriously for casual occasions is a way to open up the conversation with your guests and make them feel at ease. This is a time to celebrate our independence - so be yourself.
