The Minneapolis Institute of Art is bringing a pieces of their collection outside the walls of the museum. They?ve teamed up with ?Ice Occasions? to recreate the fan-favorites as ice sculptures that?ll be placed in parks across Minneapolis for all to see. The art-in-ice will be on view starting Friday, February 19th. The five museum pieces and locations are: Veiled Lady at Longfellow Park, Olive Trees at Washburn-Fair Oaks Park, Your Dog at Bde Mka Ska, Celestial Horse at North Commons Park and Lobster Telephone at Boom Island Park. Mikayla Holmgren hopes to be 1st woman with Down Syndrome featured in Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue
The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue has come a long way in the last few years making a commitment to inclusion. One of our own, Minnesota?s Halima Aden, was the first model featured wearing a hijab and burkini. Now, Marine on St. Croix native is hoping to be the next Minnesotan to make history in the issue. Her name is Mikayla Holmgren and if that name rings a bell it?s because she was the first woman with Down syndrome to compete in a Miss USA pageant entering the Miss Minnesota USA pageant in 2017. She won the Spirit of Miss USA and Director?s awards that night. Now she?s set her sights on the SI Swim Issue and put together her audition video which is now posted online. This is the 8th edition of the ?Sexy Chef Calendar.? It started as a fundraising effort to build out the space they?re currently located in. It was such a hit they continue to bring it back. Minnesota Children?s Museum reopens with new ?Doc McStuffins? exhibit
The Doc is in! Popular Disney Junior show ?Doc McStuffins? has come to life in a new exhibit at the Minnesota Children?s Museum. The cartoon is about a little girl who fixes up her toys, reassures them they?re going to be okay and encourages them not to be afraid of the doctor. The exhibit has been spread out over two areas to ensure social distancing and many of the touch-toys have been removed or switched to a different surface to allow for easier cleaning. The ?Doc McStuffins? exhibit will be in place through May 9th. MCM is now open Thursday to Sunday.
