City leaders in Minneapolis and St. Paul responded to reports of up to 100 federal agents being deployed to the Twin Cities, specifically to target the Somali community. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, and Minneapolis City Council member Jamal Osman spoke out during the press conference.

During the press conference, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter called out a shifting view on immigration, saying, “It seems to many of us like the darker the skin the immigrants who come to our country are, the more our posture on immigration as a country has shifted. That's un-American. That's concerning.”

President Donald Trump commented on Gov. Tim Walz and immigrants from Somalia during his cabinet meeting Tuesday afternoon, saying: "They contribute nothing. I don't want them in our country. I'll be honest with you."
