Twins to extend protective netting at Target Field

The Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday they plan to extend the protective netting at Target Field to protect fans with seats close to the action.

The lower level seats at Target Field are located closer to home plate than any other field in Major League Baseball. The Twins already put up seven-foot high protective netting running the length of the first and third base dugouts in 2016.

Prior to the 2018 season, the club will extend that netting from seven to approximately nine feet. The club will also extend the netting beyond the dugouts down both foul lines. The netting will cover the entire Dugout Box seating area—Sections 1-17.

The Twins will also continue to implement a “communication plan to warn fans about the dangers posed by batted balls and bats entering the stands and the need to pay attention to the action on the field during each at-bat.”
