The University of St. Thomas and Saint John’s University football rivalry will play out at Allianz Field next season.

The NCAA Division III rivals will meet at Allianz Field on Oct. 19, 2019. The Tommie-Johnnie game, which will be a home game for St. Thomas, will be the first-ever American football game played at the Major League Soccer stadium.

“We go and try to give them different experiences, and certainly this beautiful facility, and this opportunity is one of those experiences," St. Thomas head coach Glenn Caruso said at a press conference Tuesday.

Allianz Field is currently under construction in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood. It is expected to be completed this spring for the Minnesota United’s 2019 season.

The St. Thomas and St. John’s football teams have met 88 times since 1901, with only seven of those games being played off-campus. The 2017 Tommie-Johnnie game took place at Target Field.

“Two years ago we played at Target Field, and that was a great experience, our guys still talk about that," Saint John's head coach Gary Fasching said. "But, that was on a baseball field, and I think this is going to be a much different environment and a much different atmosphere.”

Ticket information for the 2019 Tommie-Johnnie game has not been released.
