Timberwolves introduce new coach Tom Thibodeau

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The Minnesota Timberwolves introduced their new head coach and president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau and new general manager Scott Layden at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Thibodeau, who started his NBA coaching career as an assistant coach with the Timberwolves more than two decades ago, said he is happy to be back in Minnesota.

The former Chicago Bulls head coach says the roster full of young, talented players like Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins is what drew him to the team.

“A big thing for me with this job was the makeup of this roster,” Thibodeau said. “I just love the makeup of this roster. That did not happen by accident. That was Flip’s vision. He had a well thought out plan of how he wanted to rebuild the team [and] he executed it great.”

Many are hoping that with Thibodeau at the helm, a playoff run will be in the team’s future.

“Hopefully someday we will be in the playoffs, whether it’s next year or the following year, I don’t know,” Thibodeau said. “But I believe in doing what’s right each and every day and I want to prepare like we are going to be there.”

Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, who was rumored to be interested in selling the franchise, publicly declared his commitment to the team at the press conference.

“I’m with these guys for the long run,” Taylor said.
