The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Wednesday forward Julius Randle has a right adductor strain and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Randle left the Timberwolves’ Jan. 30 game against the Utah Jazz in the second quarter after making a drive to the basket. He immediately grabbed at his right groin in discomfort, left the game and did not return.

Randle had an MRI done, and a second opinion confirmed a right adductor strain. That means he’ll miss at least the next six games, and probably more.

Randle’s season

Why you should care:

Tim Connelly acquired Randle in the trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks just before training camp. Now the two pieces Connelly acquired, Randle and Donte Divincenzo, are both out injured. In 48 games, Randle is averaging 18.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, while making 4.6 3-pointers pre game and shooting 81 percent from the free-throw line.

The Timberwolves missed Randle’s offense in their last two losses to the Washington Wizards, and Sacramento Kings.

The schedule

What's next:

The Timberwolves host the Chicago Bulls Wednesday night, the Houston Rockets Thursday night and the Portland Trail Blazers Saturday night to end a five-game home stand. The Timberwolves are 27-23 on the season and in the No. 7 spot in the West, but are just 12-12 at Target Center this season. They were 30-11 on their home court last year.

The NBA trade deadline is 2 p.m. Thursday, but the Timberwolves are unlikely to make any significant moves.
