National Signing Day: Gophers recap

The Gophers have secured their first National Signing Day class under head coach Tracy Claeys, headlined by linebacker Carter Coughlin of Eden Prairie, Minn. and former East Ridge (Woodbury, Minn.) quarterback Seth Green.

Signing Day was also Suspense Day for Gophers fans, following the mid-season retirement of head coach Jerry Kill and a disappointing 6-7 record. At the end of the day, the only big loss for the Gophers was verbal commit Drederick Snelson, a 4-star wide receiver who ditched the Gophers for Central Florida. The Gophers were able to retain the commitment of 3-star cornerback Coney Durr of Louisiana, who gained interest from Virginia Tech and North Carolina.

Of the 24 newest Gophers announced by Coach Claeys, 6 are already enrolled in classes at the University of Minnesota. The Gophers’ 2016 recruiting class includes players from 12 different states, includes 11 from Minnesota.
