Young Edina man struck, killed by semi on I-494 in South St. Paul

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a semi-truck on Interstate 494 at Concord Street in South St. Paul early Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Samuel Oden from Edina, Minn.

The State Patrol's preliminary report said Oden was in the westbound lane for "unknown reasons" before getting hit by the semi around 2:30 a.m.  According to the report, alcohol was not a factor.

The westbound lanes on I-494 were shut down for several hours but have since reopened. State troopers were assisted by the Dakota County Sheriff's Office along with the Woodbury Department of Public Safety.
