MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The 16-year-old struck and killed by a driver attempting to flee police in north Minneapolis last week has been identified as Diana Ivette Garcia-Alvarado of Phoenix.
At 9:55 p.m. Friday night, officers spotted a car driving recklessly near 36th Avenue N. and Emerson Avenue N. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and struck Garcia-Alvarado. She was transported to the hospital, where she died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office.
The suspect continued driving for a short distance before jumping out of the moving car and running. Officers arrested him a block away as he was attempting to carjack a vehicle occupied by a family. He was found to have two felony warrants for his arrest.
The suspect has not yet been identified. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner and Minneapolis police are investigating the incident.
