Some of St. Paul’s finest police officers and their K9 partners won a national title at the United States Police K9 Association’s National Field Trials in Springfield, Illinois last month.

The St. Paul Police Department’s K9 unit, consisting of five officers and their K9 partners, took home the department team trophy. More than 70 teams competed in The 45th Annual National Field Trials. Getting to the competition required hours of training and practicing, beyond all the work that goes into getting a K9 certified.

“To see the hard work come to fruition and the guys to come through in the end it makes us very proud,” Officer Jason Brodt said.

The officers said it was extra meaningful for them to win the trophy because it is named after a St. Paul police officer who died in the line of duty.
