Police: Apple Valley deaths ruled murder-suicide

Police are investigating a murder-suicide after a man and a woman were found shot to death in their Apple Valley, Minnesota, home Thursday morning.

Officers found Alan Lee Josephson, 49, and his wife, Lynn Marie Josephson, 56, at approximately 9:45 a.m. while conducting a welfare check of their home on the 14000 block of Pennock Ave, according to Apple Valley police.

The weapon used was a .38 caliber handgun, which was found adjacent to the bodies, according to a press release.

After examining the crime scene and conducting both autopsies, officers learned that Alan Josephson "fired the handgun at Lynn multiple times, striking her twice, the fatal wound [being] a close range shot to the head. Very soon after, Alan shot himself in the head," according to the release.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Wednesday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. when a neighbor reported hearing several “bangs."

The Josephsons have been described by friends and family as a “happy” couple with a “close” relationship, the release said.

It was also reported that Alan Josephson struggled with depression and that there were no police contacts at the residence other than a few routine calls.
