Murder-suicide suspected deaths of divorced couple in Fergus Falls

Authorities are investigating after a recently divorced couple was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Fergus Falls, Minnesota Wednesday night. 

The victims have been identified as Sarah Cheshire, 41, and Ryan Cheshire, 41. Ryan was the assistant district attorney for Otter Tail County, according to Fox-affiliate KVRR. Sarah was a partner at Karkela, Hunt and Cheshire in Fergus Falls. 

Fergus Falls police officers responded to a 911 call from friends of Sarah's about a person not breathing at Ryan's residence shortly after 11 p.m. When officers arrived, they found both Sarah and Ryan dead. 

The preliminary investigation indicates Ryan shot Sarah before turning the gun on himself, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. 

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner confirmed Sarah died of homicide due to a gunshot wound and Ryan died of suicide due to a gunshot wound. 

Sarah's firm released a statement on Thursday morning following the news of her death: "It is with deep sadness that we announce our friend and colleague Sarah Cheshire has passed away. Our firm family is grieving this tragic loss. Details surrounding her passing are limited at this time." 

The Fergus Falls Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the deaths.
