Motorcyclist who fled police fighting for life after striking another car at 100 mph
FRIDLEY, Minn. (KMSP) - A motorcyclist who fled from police suffered life-threatening injuries after striking another car while running a red light at close to 100 mph Tuesday morning in Fridley, Minn., officials said.
An officer tried to pull the rider over near the corner of 61st Avenue NE and University Ave. NE after witnessing the motorcyclist driving erratically, with officials later writing later in a press release that he showcased "conduct that would suggest that he wanted the police to attempt to stop him."
After taking off at a high rate of speed police decided not to pursue due to "policy and safety concerns," officials said.
He was seen weaving in and out of traffic and running red lights on University Avenue NE until he reached the intersection of 49th Avenue NE and struck another vehicle at nearly 100 mph. The officer who originally attempted to pull the man over came across the scene a short time later and attempted to render aid until paramedics arrived.
The incident is currently under investigation.
