Man killed in officer-involved shooting identified
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man who died in an officer-involved shooting on Thursday in St. Paul as 29-year-old Eugene Francis Smith, according to a press release.
Officials determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident is still under investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
According to the preliminary BCA report, Smith's home on Minnehaha Ave E had become part of an active investigation. Officers entered the home around 2:15 p.m., fatally shot a pitbull charging at them. They then went in a bedroom, where Smith immediately began to shot at them. Officer Joshua Raichert, a 10-year St. Paul Police veteran, shot back, killing Smith.
