Lightning-sparked fire damages 2 Otsego, Minn. homes

Early Sunday morning lightning caused a house fire in Otsego, Minn., which quickly spread to a neighboring property on the 12000 block of 76th Street NE. One family was hosting a youth soccer sleepover. The American Red Cross said volunteers are helping 4 adults and 6 children.

The fires were reported at 6:13 a.m. Sunday. The Albertville fire crew that responded to the initial call found the first house engulfed in flames. All of the occupants of the house made it out safely before firefighters arrived. Extreme heat and high winds caused a neighboring house to catch fire. Everyone inside that house was already outside after being woken up by the first fire.

The official cause of the first fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
