Eagan middle school teacher charged with stalking student using Snapchat
EAGAN, Minn. (KMSP) - An Eagan, Minn. middle school teacher is charged with stalking one of his students after he found her Snapchat username and began messaging her on the social media site.
Cody Hansen, 25, of Hastings sent numerous messages to the 12-year-old student between November 2015 and January 2016 using four different usernames, according to the criminal complaint. The student saved several screenshots of the conversations between her and Hansen and reported them to Eagan police.
In messages, Hansen told the student he thought she was “cute," asked her if she had ever been kissed and whether she liked older guys. During one exchange, Hansen told the student “This is Mr. H.” and “you can’t tell anyone that we are talking.”
The student repeated told the defendant that what he was doing was wrong and blocked his usernames.
Hansen admitted to police he sent the messages to the student. He said he found her Snapchat username from her Instagram account.
Hanson told police he did it because he was struggling with a personal problem. He said he stopped talking to the student and “hoped this would all go away.”
Hansen is being charged with two counts of felony-level stalking.
