Eagan City Council approves new Vikings HQ
EAGAN, Minn. (KMSP) - The Eagan City Council has given the green light for the Minnesota Vikings to move the team headquarters and training facility to Eagan.
The training facility will be located on a 200-acre site off I-494 at the intersection of Dodd Road and Lone Oak Parkway.
The City Council voted unanimously to change the land-use designation to mixed use, which allows the team to create a development that includes offices, retail, residential, a conference center, headquarters and practice facility.
The Vikings have preliminary approvals on all phases of planned development, which includes 40 acres in the first phase to create the team headquarters, indoor practice facility, outdoor practice fields and expandable outdoor stadium and more.
Development will happen in stages throughout the next 10 to 15 years.
The Vikings expect site work to begin within the next few weeks. A ceremonial groundbreaking will be planned for later this summer. The team hopes to move into the new facility in spring 2018.
