Burnsville Center closed on Thanksgiving, following Mall of America's lead

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (KMSP) - Burnsville Center will be closed on Thanksgiving. The announcement comes one week after Mall of America announced a Thanksgiving closure. Burnsville Center will be open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. The decision was announced Wednesday in a letter to shopper from the mall operator’s CEO.
“Over the last few years, we’ve watched as the magic of Black Friday has been diminished by an earlier start to the holiday shopping season. Gone are the days of waking before dawn to hunt for deals and doorbusters. Well, not this year. We’re happy to announce that our malls will be closed this year on Thanksgiving and will open for Black Friday at 6 a.m.,” said a letter from Stephen Lebovitz, CEO of CBL & Associates. “We want you to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends and come fresh and excited to spend Black Friday with us. So enjoy that extra plate of pie at dinner, take a long afternoon nap, set your alarm and wake up with us to bring back the magic of Black Friday. Have a happy Thanksgiving. We’ll see you Friday.”
CBL & Associates is closing 73 of its malls and open-air shopping centers on Thanksgiving Day. Department stores, movie theaters, restaurants or other tenants that have their own exterior entrance may choose to stay open. The company says the Thanksgiving closure will allow 1,500 mall employees and between 750 and 2,000 retail workers per mall to celebrate the holiday.
