Avoid holiday decoration thefts this holiday season

(KMSP) - Local law enforcement agencies are warning people about an uptick in thefts of outdoor holiday decorations this season.

The Shakopee Police Department offers a few tips for protecting your decorations from theft:

• Install motion detecting lights
• Zip tie the decorations to something secure
• Use a locking extension cord
• Attach decorations to a yard stake
• Form a neighborhood watch
• Call police if you see anything suspicious
