Another Very Warm June

KMSP - Much of the country finished another month above average including right here in Minnesota. The state as a whole was a couple degrees above average continuing our streak of above average months that includes the entire first half of 2016. Meanwhile, the west saw a record breaking June with the warmest middle month ever recorded in Arizona & Utah. Overall, every single state in the country was above average. And unlike May, it was also quite dry for many regions. While Minnesota experienced a pretty normal month of rainfall, the high plains, the central Mississippi Valley, and the Northeast had a pretty dry month. South Dakota, Wyoming, & Nebraska had one of their driest, a complete flip flop from a month earlier that saw near record breaking rains. Drought returned to parts of Missouri and continued expanding in the northeast with much of the Megalopolis coming in under the norm.
