200-pound black bear hit by car in Corcoran, Minn.

CORCORAN, Minn. (KMSP) - A black bear was struck and killed by car in Corcoran, Minnesota over the weekend.

Corcoran Police found the bear near the intersection of Maple Hill Road and County Road 10 shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. The black bear was approximately two to three years old and weighed approximately 200 pounds. It had been hit by a car sometime during the night.

The Minnesota Department of Resources also responded to the scene.

While bear sightings are uncommon in Corcoran, it is no longer unusual to see a bear in the Twin Cities metro. The DNR reports the black bear’s range now covers half of Minnesota and there is a growing population of the animals in the southeastern part of the state.
