18 deaths in Minnesota foster homes over past 5 years

The foster care where Johnson was found dead

Data provided by the Minnesota Department of Human Services shows 18 deaths have been reported in foster homes in the state over the past 5 years, with two of those deaths caused by abuse. The official cause of death in the Dec. 26 case of 6-year-old Kendrea Johnson at a Brooklyn Park, Minn. foster home remains under investigation.

The state has suspended the license of Tannise Nawaqavou, who operates the foster home at 9266 Queens Gardens N. "The Commissioner of the Department of Human Services finds that the health, safety, and rights of children in your care are in imminent risk of harm," said a DHS letter suspending the license.
