It's the end of meteorological summer and it was officially the fifth warmest summer on record in the Twin Cities metro. This summer also clocked in as one of the driest on record in recent years.
(FOX 9) - Meteorological summer is over and it was officially the fifth-hottest summer on record for the Twin Cities metro as well as one of the driest.

What we know:
Summer 2026 tied with 2023 for the fifth-warmest summer on record in the Twin Cities with an average temperature of 74.7 degrees. The hottest summer on record was in 2021, when the average temperature during the summer months was 75.6 degrees.
By the numbers:
The Twin Cities has seen 18 90-degree days so far in 2026, the most in recent years. That number could get even higher, as September is also typically a warm month in Minnesota.
The Twin Cities has also seen 84 days with highs of 80 degrees or above.
Lack of rain in August

It was the fourth-driest August on record in the Twin Cities, with an average of just 0.46 inches of rain falling in the area over the course of the month.
From June to August, the Twin Cities got an average of 7.36 inches of rain, making it the 18th driest summer since records began in 1872.
