Hurricane Idalia's storm surge will pack a one-two punch as landfall is forecast to happen on Florida's Gulf Coast during a full Moon and high tide for some areas.

Satellite imagery from NOAA showed the power of Hurricane Idalia and Hurricane Franklin at sunrise on Tuesday morning.

There are only a few days left for Florida residents to prepare for the effects of the storm, and Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 33 counties to ensure communities have the resources they need ahead of the storm’s arrival.

The Southeast and mid-Atlantic coasts will likely experience big swells and rip currents through the Labor Day weekend.

Hilary is no longer a hurricane but still carries so much rain that forecasters say “catastrophic and life-threatening" flooding is likely in Tijuana, Southern California and points north as far as Idaho.

Tropical Storm Don became Hurricane Don on Saturday, marking the first hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season.

It's the first El Niño year since 2019. The climate event can have significant impacts on the weather, including the Pacific and Atlantic hurricane seasons.

An average hurricane season produces 14 named storms and seven hurricanes. Out of the hurricanes, three usually strengthen into major storms with winds of at least 115 mph.

An updated Atlantic hurricane season outlook released Thursday now calls for 15 named storms, an increase from the initial outlook, and several of them could become hurricanes, experts say.

The upcoming Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be less active than recent years, with a forecast of a near-average season. 

According to NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information, Ian was responsible for $112.9 billion in damage, making it the costliest hurricane in Florida’s history and the third-costliest in U.S. history, behind only Katrina ($190 billion) and Harvey ($151.3 billion).

NASA managers decided earlier this week to leave the 322-foot-tall moon rocket and Orion spacecraft on Launch Pad 39B, where it has been since the rollout on Nov. 4.

Tropical Storm Lisa will continue to strengthen and could be at or near hurricane strength by late Wednesday as it makes landfall, likely along the coast of Belize.
