Fall Crawl: A local, women-owned shopping experience

Several women-owned vintage shops across the Twin Cities have come together to create a month-long shopping experience. The Vintage Fall Crawl is modeled after a pub crawl. There are 14 shops on the crawl in Minneapolis and St. Paul. These shops offer an array of vintage goods, including clothing, home decor, furniture, jewelry, accessories, art and more. They?ve even created a passport that will give shoppers a 10% discount. The Vintage Fall Crawl runs for the entire month of October. Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is back at the Minnesota Zoo for year five. Thousands of glowing carved pumpkins have been installed in the treescape of the zoo, lining a quarter-mile walking trail. This years? theme is the four seasons. The event runs evenings through November 4th. Tickets need to be purchased ahead of time on the zoo?s website.

A classic story bursting with glitz and glam is taking the stage in Minneapolis. Collide Theatrical Dance Company is bringing ?The Great Gatsby? to life on stage through dance and live music. The song selection includes artists like Lady Gaga and Beyonce. The show runs Sept. 29 through Oct.15 at the Luminary Arts Center in the North Loop. Collide was established by founder Regina Peluso in 2013. Since then she?s produced 25 original dance theater productions.

Every other Wednesday, about two dozen people get together to strut their stuff along Grand Avenue. The group is called Wance, a combination of walk and dance, and that's exactly what its members do along the popular street.

Band Box reopens in Minneapolis

A piece of Minneapolis history is back in business. Band Box Diner first opened in 1939 on the corner of 10th Street and 14th Avenue in the Elliot Park Neighborhood. At one time, there were 15 locations, but by the 70?s only the original remained. In 1998, Brad and Heather Ptacek took over. They ran it up until the pandemic shutdown in March of 2020. On September 14th, three years after it closed, the Facebook page came back to life with the post ?We?re Back.? The diner is open Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 3pm and on Saturday from 9am to 2pm.

The Church Basements Ladies are back with a new musical titled ?A Mighty Fortress is our Basement.? The show is set in rural Minnesota in the 60?s. The concept first launched in 2005 and is still going strong nearly 20 years later with more than three-million theatergoers taking in the shows. The newest musical is playing now at the Ames Center in Burnsville. It runs through November 12th.

Bodega42 Fresh Market and Homshuk restaurant are the newest additions to the south metro. The new concept is located on Galaxie Avenue just south of County Road 42. The restaurant with a big patio, sources its ingredients from the market including fresh tortillas made in-house. The market also has a butcher, deli, grab-and-go section, and a bakery. The restaurant and market are open seven days a week.

Seen and Heard: One-of-a-kind performance combines sight and sound

When we think of music, we often think of sound. But a unique concert recently challenged that notion, bringing lyrics to life in a special way. This was all thanks to a collaboration between singer-songwriter Jeremy Messersmith and local artist Sarah Kraning.

In the last few years, there?s been a lot of stories about fast-furniture clogging landfills and this could partly explain why vintage continues to trend in home d?cor. This weekend there?s an event that caters to those who love finding that hidden gem. 150 makers and vintage collectors have come together at Canterbury Park to create a unique retail experience known as ?Junk Bonanza.? The even runs from 9am to 5pm on September 22nd and 23rd. Tickets are $12 at the door.

Isles Buns celebrates 30 years

Isles Bun & Coffee has been a Minneapolis staple since 1993. Located near the corner of Hennepin Avenue and 28th Street, the shop is known for its gigantic fresh-baked cinnamon rolls and best-seller, the puppy-dog tails with cream cheese frosting. The original recipes have stayed the same, but the Veigel family has added some savory options since taking over in 2000. The shop is open from 6:30am to 5pm.

Minneapolis? first cat caf? has relocated to Roseville. Caf? Meow is now at the corner of Lexington Parkway at Larpenteur Avenue. The new space offers more parking and a bigger area for cats. At the moment, 28 cats have moved into the new location. The caf? and cat space are separated so you can visit the shop for coffee and baked goods without mingling with cats, or you can do both. There is a small fee to hang with the cats that helps pay for their care. The New Hope location is still open as well. Since it?s opening in 2018, Caf? Meow has found 934 cats a home.

It?s been quite the year for the Wrecktangle Pizza crew. They were named ?Best Pizza in America? in early 2023 and people flocked to get their hands on the Detroit-style pizza with a Minnesota twist. Now they?ve partnered with First Avenue to open a new spot in St. Paul that?s offering more than just pizza. Wrestaurant at the Palace will have all the favorites plus new creations. It?s next door to the Palace Theatre which is co-operated by First Avenue. The Wrestaurant at the Palace is at 33 West 7th Place. They?re open seven days a week.
