Local youth making a difference with lemonade
For the last six years, two brothers from Carver have been running a lemonade stand and donating their profits to different local organizations. They'll be at it again on Friday, August 28th from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 417 High Street in Carver. This time Dash and Jace Nelson will make donations to the Carver Black Sox Town Ball Team and the Lowry Nature Center. They're also collecting school supplies for the local elementary school.

Twin Cities dancers audition for Nutcracker 2026
Dancers from all over the Twin Cities are auditioning for Loyce Houlton's Nutcracker Fantasy this week. The beloved Minnesota holiday tradition will run Dec. 12–20 at the State Theatre in Minneapolis. The cast includes more than 100 local dancers performing alongside professional artists and a live 44-piece orchestra.

The first batch of apples are ready for harvest
First Kiss apples are being harvested for opening day at the AppleHouse, Thursday August 20th. This will be the last season for this location of the AppleHouse. In 2027 it will move into a new facility on the Landscape Arboretum grounds. The AppleHouse will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. It is located 1.5 miles west of the main Arboretum entrance along Highway 5.

Boast Squash looking forward to sport's Olympic debut
Squash will make its debut at the 2028 Olympic games in LA, and the members of Boast Squash in Eden Prairie can't wait. The facility opened in 2017 with classes for all ages including a Junior Academy. They offer a junior beginner's clinic on most Saturdays at noon. Boast Squash is located at 9805 Hamilton Road.

It's showtime for sunflowers
Waldoch Farm is bringing back its Sunflower Festival. The event runs August 13th through September 13th, Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The farm boasts six full acres of sunflowers. With a ticket, guests get to cut a sunflower to take home and can hop on a hayride. There are also other family activities at the Joyer Adventure portion of the farm like a slide, low-ropes course and wooden playsets. The farm is located at 8174 Lake Drive in Lino Lakes.

The team will be preparing birds, mammals, fishes, plants and insects for natural history collections. This goes hand in hand with the new project they've launched called Salvage Wildlife in which tragedies are turned into scientific data. Bell Expeditions runs August 12th - 15th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and it's free to attend.

There's an enormous new entertainment venue in Apple Valley. Skyline Social & Games is just over 97,000 square feet. Indoors, there's two bowling alleys, duckpin, axe throwing, an arcade and full menu and bar with multiple areas to sit and dine. Outside, there's several volleyball courts, bocce ball and cornhole including summer leagues that start soon. It's located at 15555 English Ave. This is Skyline's second location. The original is in Hermantown.

The Dakota County Fair runs August 10th - 16th. They have animals, food and more than 45 free events. General admission is free. Parking is $10. The fairgrounds are located in Farmington at 4008 220th St W.

Mall of America hosts robotics competition
The Mall of America is hosting a VEX Robotics competition this weekend. More than 118 high school teams representing 23 states, and four countries are competing in the North Atrium of the mall August 6th - 8th. This VEX season features two new games that will challenge students to design, build, program, and refine their robots throughout the year.

The Tool Library also offers classes including Intro to Shop Tools and Car Care 101 among others.

A new event will allow visitors to explore the Titanic through the eyes of the passengers. Titanic: An Immersive Voyage opens on Thursday, August 6th at the Royalston Square event center. It combines history and technology and includes 2,000 artifacts. The exhibit will be in place through the holidays. Tickets start at $24.90. It is located at 501 Royalston Ave. in Minneapolis.

Free Book Buggie coming to a city near you
A Minnesota mom and avid reader made it her mission to give away free books to kids all across the state. To date, she's handed out more than 600,000 books through her Free Book Buggie. The retrofitted shuttle bus makes several stops every week throughout the summer. The Free Book Buggie website lists all of the upcoming stops.

History on Wheels: Antique Car Run returns for 40th year
This weekend, dozens of antique cars will begin their trek from New London to New Brighton with several stops along the way. It's the 40th Antique Car Run. The vehicles are from 1908 or earlier, or a one- or two-cylinder vehicle from 1915 or earlier. The drive is 120 miles and they average 20mph. The antique vehicles will begin arriving at New Brighton Stockyard Days at 3 p.m. on Saturday August 8th.

The Old Time Harvest Festival is put on by the Scott-Carver Threshers. It takes place on 92 acres across the street from the Scott County Fairgrounds. The festival is three days long. Tickets for adults are $10 for the whole weekend. Kids 12 and under are free.

It was important to the owners that everyone could see the caves, so they worked with the city to re-configure their business creating a public lobby space. Now the caves are open seven days a week and free to explore for all ages. The caves are located at 415 Broadway St. South in Jordan. The caves are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kids at an Edina summer camp are experiencing life in the 1800s. It's called the Pioneers and Trailblazers camp and it's put on by the Edina Historical Society. It takes place in two of Edina's most historic buildings, the Cahill School and the Grange. Both structures were built in the 1800s. The campers are learning to sew, churn butter, make dye from berries while also exploring local history. This camp is for kids age six to ten and there are more camps scheduled for August.

A cotton candy artist in Waconia has taken her love of sweets to the next level by opening Coney's on Main Street. The shop will have ice cream, Swedish candy, Minnesota-made chocolate and dirty sodas year-round. Coney's is open Tuesday through Sunday.

There are three new sweet shops in the Twin Cities. Coney's is on Main Street in Waconia. They carry Swedish candy, Minnesota-made chocolate, ice cream and dirty soda. In Minneapolis, Confetti Blossom opened in May in the downtown skyways. The shop specializes in Swedish candy. It's located in LaSalle Plaza. And in St. Louis Park, The Candy Shop is opening soon in the building next to Honey & Rye. It's taking over the Bakehouse space.
