Dick's House of Sport is an experimental store by Dick's Sporting Goods at Ridgedale Center in Minnetonka. It is among three of these stores in the country. The store has the same goods you're used to seeing at Dick's Sporting Goods but this store will give you the chance to try some of the things before you buy. There are batting cages, golf simulators, rock climbing walls and an outdoor field (a hockey rink in winter). The store also plans to host community events.

The Flint Hills Family Festival returns to St. Paul

After a two-year hiatus, the festival that provides free and low cost musical and theatrical performances for families is back for its 22nd year. The Flint Hills Family Festival is Friday June 3rd and Saturday June 4th with shows and activities inside the Ordway and outside in Rice Park. Tickets for Ordway shows are just $8. One of the most anticipated performances is from the SHAPESHIFT dance company. They?ve created a new show called ?Be your own Superhero.? They will perform on Saturday at 10am and 2pm. A local teacher has made it her mission to visit every donut shop in the Twin Cities and beyond. Kara Johnson started her donut trek in November of 2020 after hearing a local bakery was struggling. She figured there were many bakeries in the same situation during the peak of the pandemic so she kept it going. She?s now in her 83rd week. She still has about 40 bakeries on her list to visit. A local baker is opening her first storefront thanks in part to community funding. Lutunji?s Palate Bakery and Caf? is on the main floor of the Gatsby Apartments in the Elliot Park Neighborhood of Downtown Minneapolis. Lutunji Abram has been baking cobbler since she was a child, but she?s flipped the script on traditional cobbler by making them vegan. Her cobbler is now in six Lunds & Byerlys across the Twin Cities and she?ll still sell her products at the local farmers markets where she got her start. Her new shop will also have vegan ice cream and a coffee bar. Doors opens May 14th at 10am.

Scooter?s Coffee has set its sights on the metro. The coffee chain has opened its first drive-thru in Maplewood at Stillwater Road and Century Blvd. There are several more shops planned in the West metro as well. Scooter?s is based in Omaha and quickly expanding across the Midwest. Their most popular drink is the Caramelicious, a caramel latte with a hefty dose of whipped cream and caramel drizzle. They also offer Red Bull infusions and breakfast pastries and sandwiches.

Starting a business is no easy task, especially during a pandemic, but Ebony Turner didn?t let that stop her from fulfilling a lifelong dream and opening Dessertopia. A year ago she moved into The Hub in Richfield, a shopping center she frequented as a kid. She specializes in custom cakes, but also sells cheesecake bars, cupcakes, ice cream and cannoli.
