Twin Cities pups to compete in AKC Agility Trial

Tunnels, teeters and jumps are no challenge for the dogs competing in the AKC Agility Trials this weekend. The Twin Cities Obedience Training Club is hosting the event. There will be more than 300 dogs running the course. The event is Jan. 5-7 and it is open to the public. They will also live stream the trials on the training center?s YouTube channel. The Twin Cities Obedience Training Club is located at 2101 Broadway St. NE in Minneapolis. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fox Den Board Game Caf? opens in Burnsville

The board game renaissance is underway and there?s a new place to play. The Fox Den Board Game Caf? recently opened in Burnsville. They have an extensive collection of games to play for free and plenty of table space, but they also have a retail shop with games and trading cards. Fox Den will be hosting trading card tournaments and D&D sessions. There?s also a caf? with coffee and tea. They?ll be adding food to the menu shortly. Fox Den Board Game Caf? is located at 12450 River Ridge Lane, Suite 300. It?s open seven days a week.

Crystal Ball returns for 21st NYE Celebration

There?s a New Year?s Eve event for just about everyone this weekend, whether it?s the Vikings, Packers game, a 90?s dance party at First Avenue?s 7th Street Entry or taking the kids to an early ball drop on Saturday at the Minnesota Children?s Museum. Or you can get glammed up and head downtown to the 50th Floor of the IDS Center in Minneapolis. The 21st annual Crystal Ball will take place at Windows at Marquette. There will several different rooms set up to give attendants multiple options. In one room you?ll find dueling pianos, in another a DJ and LED dance floor, there?s an arcade room and a sing-a-long piano bar with Karaoke. The event runs from 8pm to 2am.

Indoor skating returns to U.S. Bank Stadium

'Tis the season to get a workout in at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Winter Warm-Up event is back at the home of the Minnesota Vikings. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Jan. 25, the doors open for inline skaters and runners. The Winter Warm-Up is open to all ages and takes place on the stadium?s main (skating) and upper (running) concourses from 5-9 p.m. on event dates. Tickets are available through TicketMaster. Skaters must bring their own gear as there?s no rental equipment available.

Celtic Junction Arts Center takes holiday show on the road

A holiday variety show is on stage at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. The Celtic Holiday Hooley is a mash-up of comedy, stories, dance from the national champion O?Shea Irish dancers and live music. The show will be at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres Monday, Dec. 12-20 and was produced by the team at the Celtic Junction Arts Center in St. Paul.

Canvas Convergence 3D art gallery opens in St. Louis Park

Artist Shawn McCann, known for his chalk art and murals, has opened a free pop-up gallery at the Shops at West End in St. Louis Park. Canvas Convergence has several over-sized 3D works of art celebrating the beauty of winter. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the art, creating fun pictures perfect for the gram. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 12pm to 8pm and on Sundays from 12pm to 5pm.

Cricket-training facility opens in Minnetonka

The first indoor cricket training facility in the state opened over the weekend in Minnetonka. Eka Sport teamed up with the Minnesota Youth Cricket Academy (MYCA) to find a space they could utilize year-round. Prior to opening this facility, MYCA would use batting cages in the winter, but that doesn?t provide the kind of space needed. MYCA offers programs for beginners through advanced athletes. There are about 70 kids in the program now but with this new space they?re hoping to grow it, as the popularity of the sport surges in the US. Eka Sport is located at 15314 Minnetonka Industrial Rd.

Boomin? chocolate business moves into Edina

A local chocolate company is expanding again, but this new ?Droolin? Moose? location is much more than just a retail shop. The 20,000 square foot space at 4545 77th St. W. in Edina will be their new distribution center and house their offices. It is also their 4th retail location. Their other shops are in Bloomington, St. Louis Park and Burnsville.

Uffda Donuts opens in Maple Grove

A new bakery in Maple Grove is making up scratch-made donuts in dozens of flavors; and on certain days, gluten-free and vegan options as well. Uffda Donuts is located at 13716 Grove Dr. N. just off Weaver Lake Road and I-94. The shop is open Wednesday through Sunday.

?Nutcracker in Wonderland? coming to Ballet Co.Laboratory

It?s not a challenge to find The Nutcracker on stage this holiday season. And that?s why one local dance company is offering an alternative by putting a twist on the classic. Ballet Co.Laboratory, based in St. Paul, is weaving Alice in Wonderland and The Nutcracker together to create Nutcracker in Wonderland. The production will run from December 8th to the 10th at the Cowles Center in Minneapolis and features the companies professional dancers and the trainees.

A one-of-a-kind home is on the market in White Bear Lake. It was originally built as a church in the late 1800?s, and has been completely renovated by Kelly Clement and Steve Bucher to become a single-family home. The ?Old Stewart? as it?s called, is now a modern residence with a full performance space including high-tech light and sound systems with plenty of historic character. The structure was scheduled to be demolished when Clement and Bucher stepped in to save it. The home is for sale for $3.45 million through Edina Realty. Gingerbread Wonderland at Norway House

Gingerbread Wonderland is back for its ninth year at Norway House in Minneapolis. Anyone can enter their edible creations. This year there are nearly 200 structures including a multi-story Barbie dreamhouse from a mother-daughter team, the Walker Art Center Sculpture Garden, Whoville from "The Grinch" and the Como Park Pavilion. The event runs through Jan. 7. Norway House is located at 913 E Franklin Ave. in Minneapolis.

In a nod to holidays past in Minneapolis, more than a dozen old figures from the Dayton?s Eighth floor holiday scenes have been restored and placed in storefronts along Nicollet. Local artists used the figures as inspiration for their creations. Along with the celebratory windows, there are four pop-up holiday shops to peruse that support local small businesses. GLOW Holiday Festival opens in St. Paul

GLOW Holiday Festival is back at CHS Field in St. Paul. The outdoor, walk-through event will take guests through over a million lights, from tunnels to selfie plaza, enchanted forest a giant snowy slide and the tremendous tree. New this year, they?ve added a zipline. It is an extra cost but takes guests across center field for a birds-eye view of the event. Food and beverage stations are sprinkled throughout the festival grounds, and will be serving up holiday goodies, snacks, hot chocolate, cider, liquor, beer, and wine. GLOW will run through Dec. 31 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly. There are a few evenings the event will be closed so check their online schedule before attending.

Chef Ann Kim unveils new restaurant in Minneapolis

One of the Twin Cities top chefs has opened a new restaurant in a familiar space. James Beard Award winner, Ann Kim, has flipped her uptown eatery from Sooki & Mimi to Kim?s. There?s a new mural, new name, new menu and new themed basement bar called Bronto Bar. It?s an ode to things that are extinct. The Korean American restaurant menu reflects Kim?s heritage and cultural journey. It?s open seven days a week from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bronto Bar is open Thursday through Saturday. Kim?s is located at 1432 W 3st St. in Uptown.

Poinsettia farm in Farmington: Behind the scenes

The flower of the holidays is ready for the spotlight. Poinsettias are in full bloom and on store shelves. Bachman?s grows 60,000 of the bright red flower and many varieties in its greenhouses just south of the Twin Cities metro, in Farmington. The flower is native to Mexico and has some strict growing conditions including a period of darkness in September and consistently warm temperatures in the 60s and 70s, no drafts allowed. Once the poinsettias are out of the greenhouses the garden company will begin growing hydrangeas for the summer.

Mia highlights native photography in new exhibit

The Minneapolis Institute of Art has a new exhibit featuring more than 150 photographs taken of, by and for Indigenous people. It?s an idea a group of Native artists and scholars started seriously discussing in 2020 and now it?s adorning the walls of the Target Gallery. ?In Our Hands: Native Photography, 1890 to Now? runs through January 14, 2024. Public Tours take place at 2pm, Tuesday through Sunday, and 7pm on Thursday. An exhibition ticket is required.

The Grinch is back at Children's Theatre Company

For the 11th time, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" has returned to the Children?s Theatre stage in Minneapolis. Actor and CTC Company member Reed Sigmund is playing the Grinch for the sixth time. The piece was originally commissioned and premiered in 1994. Artistic Director Peter Brosius has been at the helm for every Grinch production but this will be his last. Brosius is departing CTC at the end of the 2023/2024 season. The Grinch runs through Jan. 7.
