MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Dallas Mavericks 115-114 Wednesday night behind a career-high 27 points from Jaden McDaniels.
But the moment of the night happened outside the Timberwolves’ locker room. Anthony Edwards met up with Colorado star football player and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. The standout receiver and defensive back declared for the NFL Draft.
The meet up
Why it matters: Edwards is one of the rising stars in the NBA and is quickly becoming the face of basketball. He gave Hunter his game-worn AE1’s. Hunter smiled ear-to-ear and said, "I’m going straight to the court in these."
Edwards also took off his No. 5 jersey and gave it to Hunter after scoring 21 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists. Hunter sat courtside for Wednesday’s game.
Hunter’s season
What we know: Colorado finished 9-4 and lost to BYU in the Valero Alamo Bowl. Hunter was a lock for the Heisman Trophy after leading the Buffaloes with 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also played defensive back, leading Colorado with four interceptions. He led the team in scoring with 15 total touchdowns, and had 32 tackles and 11 pass break-ups.
It’s virtually unheard of to have those kinds of numbers on both sides of the ball.
What we don’t know: Where Hunter will land in the NFL Draft. He’s a consensus top-10 pick, maybe even a top-3 pick.
