Woman's body found in woods near Lewiston

Winona County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a homicide after police found a woman’s body overnight near Lewiston, Minn. 

At about 6:22 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a call about possible homicide, according to the press release. After investigating, law enforcement started searching for a woman at about 8 p.m. At about 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, officials found a woman’s body in a wooded area about a mile away from the intersection of County Road 25 and County Road 23, which is east of Lewiston.

The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy of the body.
A person is in custody at the Winona County Jail for probable cause of 2nd degree homicide, but no charges have been filed yet.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation.
