Prince's 'yellow cloud' guitar to be auctioned
LOS ANGELES (AP) - One of Prince’s “yellow cloud” electric guitars is going up for auction. Prince performed with the bright yellow, uniquely shaped guitar on the songs “Cream” and “Gett Off.” Prince used the custom guitar throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
The guitar will be available for auction through Heritage Auctions on June 24 with an opening bid of $30,000.
The current owner, Richard Leece, was a longtime Prince fan and first bought it about a year ago and said the instrument is in "pristine" condition.
The guitar has a serial number and comes with a letter of authenticity from Prince guitar technician Zeke Clark, who explained the guitar's neck was broken in France in 1994 and later repaired.
Prince was found dead on April 21 at age 57 in his Paisley Park recording complex in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
