Precinct caucuses for DFL, Republican Party start Tuesday night
(KMSP) - Now that the football season has ended, the political season starts. Precinct caucuses for both the DFL and the Republican Party of Minnesota get underway Tuesday night.
Precinct caucuses are meetings run by the state’s political parties. They are the first in a series of meetings where parties may endorse candidates, select delegates and begin shaping the party’s platform.
“Minnesota will be the epicenter of the 2018 political election and precinct caucuses are where it all begins,” Ken Martin, DFL chair, said. “With two open Senate seats, four swing congressional races and an open governorship on the ballot there is a lot at stake on in this election.”
The main feature of the caucuses will be a straw poll of the governor’s race.
“Again, there is so much at stake in the 2018 elections,” Jenifer Carnahan, chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota, said. “And for people to have a voice and a say in the process it really starts tomorrow night and so we’re encouraging people to turn out, encourage them to get involved and encourage them to have a vote and a say in the process.”

The caucuses start Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
