Mills ends push for recount in 8th District

Stewart Mills lost the race for Minnesota's 8th Congressional District to incumbent Democrat Rick Nolan on Nov. 8.

Republican Stewart Mills said he’s no longer seeking a recount in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District, an election that came down to a 0.56 percent margin.

In a statement released Friday, Mills said he made the decision after consulting with family and supporters and that “in the end, the cost estimates of this recount in terms of volunteer time and expense was excessive.”

Mills decided instead to donate a portion of the funds to the Salvation Army. He said that donations made toward the recount will be refunded or added to the Salvation Army donation.

Mills also congratulated Nolan and thanked election workers for their work.
