Memorial Day drowning in Cannon River claims fisherman's life

WELCH, Minn. (KMSP) - The Cannon River claimed a life Monday morning near Welch, Minnesota, when a fisherman fell into the water and was swept away, according to Goodhue County officials. 

The victim was a 40-year-old from St. Paul. According to a release, the man's body was found by canoers roughly an hour later and a half-mile away from where the initial call came in. Police first responded to the scene around 11:36 a.m.

The incident is still under investigation.
