ME: Snowmobile driver missing in Rice County died from 'snowmobile mishap'

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined a snowmobile driver who died Sunday in rural Rice County, Minnesota died after a "snowmobile mishap." 

The snowmobile driver was identified as Chad VanZuilen, 37, of Dundas. The medical examnier said he died from traumatic asphyxia due to the snowmobile accident. 

VanZuilen left Webster Township, but never arrived at his desination in Northfield. He was reported missing shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. 

At 3:45 a.m., Rice County sheriff's deputies located VanZuilen and his snowmobile on the 6600 block of Hazelwood Avenue in Webster Township. He was taken to Northfield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The Rice County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the accident.
