Four suspects in custody in connection to Prior Lake murder

Four suspects are in custody in connection to a murder in Prior Lake that ended in an officer-involved shooting in Edina, according to the Prior Lake Police Chief.

39-year-old Brandy Lee Jaques of Minneapolis, 27-year-old Tyrel Lamar Patterson of Minneapolis, and 27-year-old Jonte Glenn Robinson of Minneapolis are in custody at Scott County Jail. According to online jail records, Jaques and Patterson are facing potential second-degree murder charges.

28-year-old Derrick Zechariah Smith of Minneapolis, who was shot by police during an exchange of gunfire, received medical treatment at the hospital.

On Wednesday, Prior Lake police officers responded to the report of a shooting on the 2100 block of Sioux Trail, which is tribal property belonging to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux community.

Officers found 42-year-old James Wayne Herron with multiple gunshot wounds. He later died at the hospital. 

Chief Mark Elliot said Jaques, Patterson, and Smith left the home in a car, which led to a police chase that ended in Edina. Authorities said Smith started shooting at officers. Police fired back, hitting Smith. 

Charges are expected on Monday.
