DWI crash on Halloween leaves 1 in coma with severe brain injury

A DWI crash in the middle of the afternoon Halloween left one person in a medically induced coma with a severe brain injury and another injured.

Police were called to a crash scene at the intersection of Annapolis Street W. and Stryker Avenue in West St. Paul. A witness told police Latoya Williams, 34, of Minneapolis drove through a stop sign at the intersection at approximately 50 to 60 miles per hour and struck another vehicle.

A preliminary breath test showed Williams’ had a 0.318 blood alcohol concentration at the time of the crash. She sustained minor seatbelt injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained a severe brain injury in the crash. He will be in a medically induced coma for the remainder of the week. One of the passengers in the car received minor injuries.

Williams is being charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operating resulting in great bodily harm and one count of third degree driving while impaired.
