'Color Explorer': This summer job pays $10K to travel and name new paint colors

Are you a creative thinker who has a passion for color schemes? Do you lie awake at night wondering how crayon colors and nail polish shades get their names? Do you love a good adventure?

If so, this might be the job for you.

Behr Paint is seeking someone to travel across the United States and Canada this summer in search of inspiration to create and name new paint colors for the brand.

The “Color Explorer” role will receive a $10,000 stipend, pre-paid flights, lodging and “unforgettable travel experiences.”

“The Behr Color Explorer will have the opportunity to kayak the glacial blues of Lake Louise in Banff, people-watch at a vibrant music festival, take in the bold exteriors of Charleston’s Rainbow Row, and experience many more moments of positively pigmented wanderlust in between,” the job description reads.

Responsibilities include capturing detailed field notes and photos of the color inspiration at each stop and sharing the journey on social media as well as the Colorfully BEHR blog.

After the summer of colorful inspiration, the candidate will be tasked with developing and naming new paint colors with the brand’s color marketing team at its Orange County, California headquarters.

“We’re not only giving the individual the tools and resources to find, experience and cultivate color, but also showing them how to creatively think about each color they find and their stories from our brand’s perspective,” said Jodi Allen, Behr Paint's chief marketing officer.

The Santa Ana-based company says the ideal candidate must love color and “be open to new, unforgettable and inspiring experiences.”

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and a resident of the U.S. or Canada with a valid passport.

Those qualified will need to visit behr.com/colorexplorer and share what color inspires them most and why, in 150 words or less, by May 15. The selected Behr Color Explorer will be notified on or around May 23, the company says.

Behr Paint products and colors are sold at Home Depot stores nationwide.
