Wildfire smoke moves into Minnesota

Wildfire smoke from the west is moving into Minnesota on Thursday, making things look a bit hazy. This is mid- to upper-level smoke though, so it shouldn't smell too smoky. FOX 9's Cody Matz has more.

Storms will develop in Iowa later Saturday afternoon and move into south Minnesota by Saturday evening and eventually west Wisconsin. Some of these storms may find their way toward the Twin Cities metro, but southeast Minnesota is the main area of concern. Because of the deep moisture content in the atmosphere, any storms that develop tonight have a chance of producing heavy rain. Therefore, a Flood Watch has been issued for southeast Minnesota until 7 a.m. Sunday.

Tuesday offered a nice mix of sun and highs in the low-80s, and nighttime lows will settle into the mid-60s.

Minnesota can expect to see more sunshine on Sunday after another cloudy day on Saturday. Sunday will start with areas of patchy fog creating low visibilities, but the fog should burn off quickly by late morning. Temperatures will warm up to near average in the upper 70s and low 80s by the afternoon. Overall, Sunday and Monday will be quiet before we start a stretch of partly cloudy and rainy weather on Tuesday through next week.

After a rainy and windy Friday, we can expect a little more sunshine for Saturday and Sunday. Highs struggled to reach the low 70s on Friday afternoon due to cloud cover and rain, but average like temperatures return for the rest of the weekend. Partly cloudy sky for Saturday with highs in the low 80s and a mostly sunny sky for Sunday with highs staying in the low 80s.

A beautiful Saturday is ahead for much of Minnesota as we're graced with a mostly sunny, average July summer day. However, chances for strong to severe storms increase for Sunday across western and northern Minnesota.
