Hurricane Milton rapidly intensified from a tropical storm to a category 5 hurricane within 24 hours and is one of the only hurricanes on record to do so. It is the second strongest hurricane recorded in the Gulf of Mexico and the fifth strongest in the Atlantic. As of Tuesday morning, the category 4 hurricane has sustained winds of over 150 mph, and it's expected to make landfall in Florida Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Millions of people are under evacuation orders, with the Tampa airport closing Tuesday and the Orlando airport closing Wednesday.

Milton quickly strengthened from a tropical storm to a category 5 hurricane within 24 hours. Milton is expected hit Florida’s west coast as a major hurricane, making landfall late Wednesday or early Thursday. The storm could bring 5-10 inches of rain, 10-15 feet storm surge and over 110 mph winds.
