Thousands gather for March of Dimes at Mall of America

The local March of Dimes event raises awareness for premature birth, one of the leading causes of death among babies.

Over 8,000 people joined together at the Mall of America to raise money for healthy moms and babies fighting prematurity.

With research on child health issues, March of Dimes advocates every aspect of mom and baby health.

"This is an opportunity for families to come together, to celebrate, to share their stories. It's an opportunity for them to really build that camaraderie with people who have had experiences just like theirs, whether it is losing a baby too soon, or having NICU experience, these families sometimes feel so alone," said Angie Deegan with March of Dimes.

With over $400,000 raised, the money goes toward research therapy and drugs used to save premature babies.
