Doctors Without Borders opens Minneapolis exhibit on refugee crisis

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - People can get a feel for struggles facing the world's refugees at an interactive exhibit in downtown Minneapolis.

Doctors Without Borders on Sunday opened its third annual tour of "Forced From Home," a free, public exhibition at The Commons near U.S. Bank Stadium. 

People taking the one-hour guided tour can sit in a replica refugee boat, watch a video in a 360-degree dome and quickly decide which items they would take with them if forced to flee their homes.

Visitors receive a passport from one of five countries -- South Sudan, Burundi, Honduras, Afghanistan and Syria -- and a legal status. 

Guide team leader Mark Leirer (leer) says the exhibit is aimed at increasing awareness of the 68.5 million people forcibly displaced around the world. 

The exhibit continues through Sept. 16 before traveling to Chicago; Charlotte, North Carolina; Atlanta and San Antonio.
