73-year-old boater drowns while fishing on Little Pelican Lake

A 73-year-old man drowned while fishing on Little Pelican Lake in northern Minnesota Monday night.

At 9:27 p.m., the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing boater on the lake. The missing boater, identified as Joseph Wallin of Pequot Lakes, had reportedly gone out fishing earlier in the evening. His pontoon was later found unoccupied with the trolling motor running. 

The sheriff’s office water patrol launched a boat search on the lake. At 12:25 a.m., crews located Wallin floating on the surface of the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
