1 dead, 1 injured in Tuesday night shooting in St. Paul

One man died after a shooting in St. Paul, Minnesota Tuesday night. 

Shortly before 9 p.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of Minnehaha Avenue East on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they did not find a victim, but witnesses said someone who had been shot was taken from the scene in a private vehicle. 

A short time later, a man arrived at Regions Hospital with apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

At 10 p.m., while officers were searching the neighborhood they located a man matching the description of the shooting suspect. When they attempted to stop him, but he fled on foot. 

Officers lost sight of the suspect, but heard a gunshot. They found him on the ground suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to Regions Hospital, where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury. A handgun was found at the scene. 

The shooting remains under investigation. 

This is St. Paul’s fourth homicide so far this year.
