Pedestrian killed on Anoka County highway

A 22-year-old man from Blaine, Minn. was killed when he was struck by a car while walking on Highway 610 near East River Road in Anoka County just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The pedestrian was walking in the middle right lane of westbound Highway 610 when he was struck by a 35-year-old Plymouth woman, causing fatal injuries, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Neither the driver nor the pedestrian had alcohol in their system at the time of the incident.

The number of pedestrians struck and killed by drivers in Minnesota is up from last year. State patrol representatives say so far this year 24 pedestrians have died. Last year, 17 pedestrians died.
