Green Line extension, Southwest Light Rail project completion date announced

Metro Transit officials have shared the opening date for the Green Line light rail extension project.

The Brief

    • The Green Line Light rail extension project will be complete on June 12, 2027, Metro Transit officials say.
    • The 14.5-mile line will run from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie, connecting Minnetonka, Hopkins and St. Louis Park along the way.
    • Groundbreaking on the Green Line extension, also known as the Southwest Light Rail project, began back in Nov. 2018 and has cost about $2.75 billion.

The entire Metro Green Line will be open to riders on June 12, 2027.
