Head-on collision on I-35W in Minneapolis leaves 1 dead

A man was killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis early Saturday morning.

What we know:

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, just before 6 a.m., a 21-year-old man was driving a Chevy Malibu southbound in the left lane of the northbound lanes of I-35W. A 25-year-old man was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on 35W and attempted to move from the left lane to the center. 

The driver of the Chevy Malibu continued southbound and went from the left lane to the center lane, leading to both cars colliding head-on, authorities said. The driver of the Jeep suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. 

The man in the Chevy Malibu died in the crash. 

What we don't know:

The identity of the driver who was killed has not been released yet by authorities. 

Law enforcement did not say what led to the driver of the Chevy Malibu to drive the wrong way on the highway, leading up to the crash.
